Beauty, as they say, lies in the eyes of the beholder. I really cannot be confined to a definition. Some would find an old building beautiful while for others it might be an eyesore. Ever wondered why some ugly dames or men got good looking partners? Because they see the beauty in the other that we cannot. What you might find beautiful, the other might find repugnant.

Broadly however, beauty can be defined as something that appeals to the inner, aesthetic sense of humans because of its shape, size and color, among others- whether man made or natural.

To some extent.... yes.

Phi.
The golden ratio.
1 : 1.618034 (approximately)

Leonardo DiVinci learnt, sure enough, that an idealised human body is made of parts all effectively proportioned to the golden ratio. The closer one comes to the golden ratio in all these aspects.... the more "universally beautiful" a person is.

http://www.pep-web.org/document.php?id=psc.39.05490.fig_4.gif

In case you never understood what that image was about... yes, it is demonstration of bodily proportion in accordance with the golden ratio.

Furthermore.... humanity averages out at around golden ratio proportions, generally speaking.... and curiously enough, if you take the photographs of a large number of people of one gender, from exactly the same angle... and merge them together evenly to get a perfect average of all their faces..... the result will tend to be more universally beautiful than any individual one of them might be.
This consequentially means that the more different you are to most people around you, the fewer will find you attractive physically....

Now none of this accounts for aquired taste. This only accounts for inbuilt genetic preferences. People will tend on average to prefer an averaged person of their particular group.... though just any random person is likely to be a few steps off that average. On the other hand, the more off the average a person is themselves, the more likely that their own preference will be off the average also... as they tend to form their own average as a preferential merger of their own qualities and those with which they favourably associate.

None of this is accounting for how shallow any given person is either.

But to sum up..... no.... technically speaking, beauty isn't really in the eye of the beholder .... but rather in the Phi of the beheld.

Thanks.

Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it is not possible to confine it in a definition. I may describe beauty in one way. You may have your own version. Others will have their own interpretations.

True beauty comes from the inside. In my opinion it has more than one definition, depending on who you are and what you believe/think. Once you get to know someone, that's what makes a person beautiful, their personality. Then again beauty is on the outside too. But that is a different kind of beauty. That's the "fashion worlds" definition of beauty, which is also just as true as inside beauty, to some people, anyway. I am one of those ppl that can look past some of those things(depending on what it is----I have to know someone to actually like them). I am smart enough to know that looks don't mean crap in a meaningful, loving, true relationship.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

We all have different views on who's beautiful, and inner beauty can make a person seem more beautiful on the outside. So, it really depends on the person in question, but beauty cannot/should not be defined.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It can be purely aesthetic, or it can inspire deep thought. It can bring a certain emotion, or it can be especially photogenic. It depends, but finding beauty, in different shapes and mediums, is the point of life, so embrace beauty whereever and whenever it is found.

I suppose that beauty can be defined in many different ways. After all, it really is in the eye of the beholder. For me, beauty is similar to purity; things that I find beautiful are things that I find to be pure. They may not appear pure to others, but my definition of purity is something that is real. Not flawless, just real and without masks or shadows to hide it for what it simply "is".

when I think of beauty as a whole inner beauty and outter beauty.

1.Beauty is a quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (such as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (such as personality).[
