The Names Jack and Rose were in fact taken from the passenger list. Jack (I forget last names) was supposedly a worker in the bowels of the ship, shoveling coal, and Rose was a first class passenger. Other than that, everything else is fiction. In reality it is highly doubtful these two ever met. That's what Cameron says anyway.

actually there was something i heard not long after the movie came out.
there was a old lady (dont know her name) back in the 80's who came aboard Robert Ballard's ship (same one by the way) and told a story like the one about Rose and Jack.
word is that she might be the Rose of the story.
And they took that story and made the story in the movie.
kind of funny that the very same ship Ballard discovered the titanic on, was the same one they used in the movie.
also did you know that nearly everyone in the ship part (the Kelvig or however its spelled) except: James cameron (cameo appearance) Bill patton, and maybe 1 other, were all real scientists and such.

No. Rose and Jack did not exist. However other characters in the movie did exist in real life. Molly Brown, J.J. Astor, and his wife Madeline (just to name a few.)

Not at all. They are part of the fiction in order to make the movie longer. They are part of the fictional drama to make Titanic sinking warmer to audiences. Yes, the old dame is Rose, but still is not a real person.

no, but it was a composite. the few that survived the ordeal often spoke of a renewed sense of life and the importance of living each day to the fullest. their stories were the inspiration.
