I've been advised to use SMA Staydown as my 12 week old son is bringing a lot of his milk back up, we were using Gaviscon in Aptimil but he is also having trouble with constipation and the hospital told me to stop this and change over to the SMA milk, we are having trouble with the milk constantly blocking up the teat and have followed the instructions to the letter, at the moment its taking over an hour to feed him, has anyone else used this milk with any success

Staydown was rubbish. I was then put on Aptimil Omneo Comfort which was good but it's bleedin expensive!

Then in the end the doctor (much to the midwifes and health visitors horror) told me to go back to SMA Gold but water it down with an extra 2 oz of water.

Worked a treat! He was on it like that up until last month. As he turned one i've put him on cow's milk and he's fine with that too.

I don't know if you want to try that but if you do trust me if you tell any midwife or health visitor they will go MENTAL!
I got so sick of arguing about the fact that the G.P. had told me to and to be honest that i trust 7 years in uni and 2 years on a paediatric ward MORE than i trust 2 years in collage needing no prior qualifications. That in the end i just stopped telling them and said "yes he's on SMA gold love, yes that's right 8oz, yes it is a lot isn't it?" lol

Anyway maybe you should chat to the G.P. and see what he say's?

Good luck. Hope he gets better soon

I haven't used SMA because when I had my first child the midwives recommended Milupa-which is named Aptamil by the 12week stage as SMA was a 'sicky milk' as she put it and tended to induce vomiting after a few weeks.

We never had any dramas with the Aptamil with any of our three so if you're trying new things anyway give it a go.

It's slightly more expensive than the SMA-but probably comparable with the special formula SMA and our local health clinic supplied it at a discounted rate so it might be worth asking yours if you want try it out and like it.

Hope this helps at least a little bit, good luck!

had terrible probs with my latest little one and she is now on special prescription milk as they finally found out that she is lactose intolerant.
With the milk blocking up the teat is it that the milk is very thick or its hard to dissolve in the water, sounds strange but try rolling the bottle once you add the powder rather than shaking it, once it looks like most of the milk powder is gone then shake like hell....I have to do this every time as our powder I use is very thick.
Good luck, keep going back to the dr if you are not happy, you will get it sorted in the end.
