UK Immigration Officer: Purpose of visit?

Visitor: I'm here to study law, sir.

Officer: You know, you must have a lot of lawyers in Malaysia .

Visitor: Why do you say that?

Officer: Well, i've been here for a good twenty years, and I'd say 80% of Malaysians I see here say they're here to read law.

Visitor: Oh, really? That's really something i never knew. Hard to believe in fact.

Officer: Just you watch, then. You just stand here until the next Malaysian comes along, and I'll bet he's here to read law.

*Visitor waits for 5 mins, Ah Chong from Malaysia comes to immigration counter*

Officer: Mr. Ah Chong, purpose of visit?

Ah Chong: Study lorr...

On a serious side, why most Malaysians (NON MALAYS) opt to study law in UK is because:

1. Yes, gaining their Bar license means you can practise law in Malaysia
2. They can opt for cheaper option which is to take the CLP but the passing rate is very low because they want to control the numbers of lawyers that come out to practise
3. For non Malays, they have no choice to skip all that and study in local uni that doesnt require you to take CLP. Its a well known thing that local Uni Law graduate are rubbish.

Agree because it recognise by Malaysia government.
Malaysia was a Commonwealth country, the original law structure is from British. If Malaysian study in USA the law will be very different

Hehe - good one! But wouldn't say they go to study in UK. They go to buy degrees there. Rarely, those Chongs etc after coming back from unis in UK know anything :) But they surely frame those diplomas and hang on the most exposed wall in the house...

Why not try the truth? Answer "yes" if you intend to practice in the UK. If you don't feel comfortable with that, you can always add "If I can get a visa."
