You may need to go and buy a new XP disc to reboot your system. Just out of curiosity, If your computer did not come with a disc for you to reboot, you may be a victim of piracy. In this case, you may need to contact Microsoft. Your computer system should have came with a XPdisc so when your computer goes down you can reboot it with the disc. Always have a back up disc. This is what happened to me when I had windows 98sec. edition. It was built and I was not given the disc to reboot it.
It is a good idea to try the other suggested posting too, such as doing a system restore. If all else fails, it may be time for a new computer.

the first thing that comes into my head is if the computer can be start up goto start- all programmes - system tools - system restore. There you can back date it to any date a restore point was made.
If not the best thing to do is to go out and buy a new PC for £500. then you will have a backup CD. + new OS altough Vista is rubbish!

As long as you have an original CoA on your system, you can borrow anyone's XP CD and use that to recover your system, just make sure they are the same version (XP Home, XP Home SP2, XP Pro, XP Pro SP2).
