I resist watching movies from Hollywood whenever I can. Sometimes when I visit friends and we watch movies together. It was really a torture to me. Also I notice that people in general often cited Hollywood versions of history.

Yeah there has been many a case which has left many a historian in shock because of the blatant twisting of facts. The recent one which i remember is that of Alexander which they show as Alexander losing against an Indian king. Though as an Indian i may feel proud but the reality was Alexander defeated the king but with great difficulty but returned back everything as an appreciation of his bravery. Hope atleast here after there is not much of these botch ups. It does confuse us.

It's because Hollywood has nothing to do with citing history correctly, they are in it for the money. And true facts don't always sell! So, an image or a story or an idea of something historical may be distorted or changed a little, in order to make it more "sellable"! Never forget, Hollywood is ultimately in it for the money, and that's why alot of things are done the way they are! They show whatever sells-PERIOD!

Bottom line, go into any movie, with an understanding that it is a movie! It isn't a history book, it's a movie! It may be BASED ON facts, but that is simply it, BASED ON, not the story of! Based on simply means that some of the story is used and then tweaked a little to make it sell! My parents always taught me, don't believe what you see on tv!
The news is the same way, they report a story based on what will make people interested and watch. They tell their version of the truth! It's always up to the viewer to determine what they believe or don't believe!

History is rather exciting and interesting, without twisting it around or making up scenarios, but Hollywood is all about being fake. Fake stars, fake bodies, fake history. I can appreciate the entertainment side of a historical movie, but my first reaction after it is over is to go home and look online to find the truth about whatever event the movie was about.

The thing is, if you are looking to Hollywood for historical information, you aren't that intelligent anyway.

if hollywood were to give u e show like it is, nobody will buy the tix. n in my opinion, it doesnt insults pple's intelligence, it is juz finding the simplest n most entertaining to present a show, purely for entertainment purposes. they do not teach, neither r they obligated to show only facts.

if u r really so into facts, u'll have fun in documentaries, not movies.
