what about Flash? this is very good for web design
and if u like programming u can use javascript

To be a designer mean you has to be creative and smart on using your imagination.
The site that you show is using flash. Flash is really popular right now.
After you learning HTML, XHTML & CSS the next step is learning Flash. If you like scripting than use Action Script that powerfull on Flash to make your design.
You can also learning server side scripting as PHP, ASP, Java Server Page, Ruby on Rails, etc to add more point on your profile.

Go for Flash, it will let you make interactive web sites, and it you want more take any of the CIW certificates.

javascript and flash can help.
understand softwares like paintshop pro, adobe photoshop etc. they come in really handy in graphic designing.
