Do you think she's meddling or doing some good and far better than the government alone? Opening schools and begging for schools to be opened... or is she a mere annoyance on behalf of the ordinary business man she's asking to check the depth of his pocket...to help out?

in one way, i think she has opened the door for others to do the same as she has. on the other hand darren, i believe that she does not have an understanding of what she has actually done.

with a country so desparately divided (financially) she is creating a conception to the rest of the world that there are only poor people in south africa, and black on top of that.

strangely enough, she showed her true colours by not allowing or "accepting" any disadvantaged white girls into her school. be that as it may, i suppose that is her perogotive, but i think that she put a lot of noses out in the white communities who also adore her.

she is now calling for business sa to dig deep and build schools. all well and good Oprah, but it is a seed that will never bear fruit. now and then you hear of a company building a school, but then hand it over to the government.

three years back, sasol built a school in mpumulanga, and handed it over to the government.

R35 million is down the drain. there are not enough teachers for the school, and vandalism and numerous break - ins have ensured that there is no longer a library, computer room, or windows.

so, even though her heart is in the right place, i doubt she thought through what she proposed very carefully...

I think she is going into it with all the best intentions. Education (and the access to modern services) is something no country can have enough of. South Africans don't have to pay for it so take it!! This money is coming from the West which controls well over 80% of the Earth's wealth. It is about time that it is distributed more evenly.

What Oprah is doing 4 S.A is a good and positive thing, South Africans should be happy that they have someone looking out for them, hey anywho I would rather have a country run by Oprah than one run by the current S.A president..

I think she is doing good, the more schools we get, the better.

If we all gave freely things would be a lot different in this country

I beg to differ with another answer, when I have seen the school kids from her school I have seen white faces. So I dont think she is discriminating

Oprah said some time ago that South Africans are the most hopeful and spirited people she has met... So I guess she have a soft place for South Africans and therefore helps building the country :)

She is going to be made a member of the ANC and will be eligible to run for the presidency of this country by 2014 now wouldn't that be something, at least she is wealthy and won't need to take from the poor in this country.

Oprah Winfrey is just another meddling fool with her goody two shoes act designed to play on Public sympathy. The schools in South Africa fall into the category of promoting herself for sainthood and her public image is designed to make her cleaner then clean. She does however have skeletons in the cupboard and only a few months back had to come clean about the illegitimate child she bore at the age of 15 which had been a well kept secret until she was found out and someone threatened to blow the whistle. Naturally it was done in the typical Winfrey fashion with the tearful confession and regret and quite frankly I find her quite shallow and boring. She got caught out with Mandela's Angel of Soweto and already the first cracks are appearing in her multi million dollar school in Johannesburg with parents complaining it is more like a Reformatory than a normal school.

I have no idea what RSA means. I think Oprah is in a lot of different things. She's got the money to do anything that she wants. At least she's trying to help educate those who need it. I'm sure she's making a lot of noise to get the people to give money to her causes. She's got more money than she'll ever be able to spend. At least she trying to do good things. I heard she spent $40 million to build that school. For what she wants to do with it, $40 million is just getting started. With her money, looks like she could spend more for her own project. She could probably keep it going all by herself and wouldn't even miss the money. She's one of the richest women in the world.
They published all of the richest people just last week. Bill Gates was on top. Oprah was on the list also.

She is trying to boost her own image poor soul...
If you want to do good...do it quietly...and you will be justly rewarded...
But standing on the street corners and shout to the world see what i have done....aint going to get you nowhere!!
