That is what Ralp Fiennes call them just now on Radio 4!!
I don't give to charity because charity begins at home but to call the British public tight because he didn't raise his target climbing Mount Everest For charity (as in monies raised) .
Isn't he an actor with lots of contacts who could easily raise 2 million between them over a pompous dinner party.
I don't think it's fair. If anything i think it is so arrogant it is beyond words.
What you think?

Ds: thanks for clearing that. didn't realize there were 2 of them by that name. And my apologies to the actor for thinking it was him :-)

Different Fiennes, this one is the explorer not the actor.

The problem in the UK is there is a charity special event for this or that every week, and we have lottery which is full of good causes ( provided you are not a white british born able bodied male).

Then Gordon puts up tax, no wonder we don't give more to charity than we already do, people can't afford to.

Every high street is littered with charity shops, because they pay less rent and rates, there is no escape from charity.

EXTRA - Best Charity in the UK - RNLI - Hundreds lifeboats, 1000s of volunteers risking their lives. They receive ZERO government money, but still provide a truly outstanding service How? because they are well run and financially managed. Unlike most charities they don't waste money on crazy schemes and high internal wages. Rant over.

Its a load of bolocks mate, just look at the tsunami the British gave more than any other nation.

Think its a bit of an ask for a dinner to raise 2 million though.

What gets me the most is the RSPCA & NSPCC they have over a hundred million in U.K. banks yet there out every day collecting!?!

Not to mention the Church of England with its millions in U.K. weapons/defence companies.

Maybe instead of slating Jo public he should of used the airtime to appeal to the listeners for a top up.

Everyone has seen everything, the rich hardly provide --- the less than rich ususally do the donating, hence there are two brands of public, charity begins at home then you donate to worthwhile charities because you feel good doing so, it beats spending the rest on things you don't need but of course forced donations carry no value at all.

Anyone raising money for a charity is bound to be disappointed when not achieving. Yet should not slag off those who can't afford to buy the clothes to climb everest. Think about that!

Thanks for the question

Completely agree with you! The British are generally tight but that's probably because the normal worker has so much tax taken from them. These people who earn loads of money like Ralph has no idea money is no object and the tax they pay in relation to what they earn is insignificant. It would be like us paying a penny!!
