i think it is a silly movie.
Iran can introduce to world by cyrus the great and films like this can not terminate glorious persian history.
W.B should make a movie from their own history about how they treated Balck people and killed more than 80 million native American!!, or what their occupation forces doing to Iraqi women, Abugharib and Guantanamu prison....what about making a movie about how Bush palnned 9/11 attack and killed thousands of his own citizens to have pretex to start attacking muslim country to steal their oil.!!!

I guess in this day and age, accuracy is all that is important and we should be offended by anything and everything that is not accurate, right?

The film is based on a graphic novel, which is based on an historical battle. Not all details are accurate, we know this, but if all you got out of the film was the portrayal of the Persians, then no amount of answers is going to help you find anything else.

The point of the story (and film) as I saw it was the story of the Spartans honor in defending their land against an aggressor with overwhelming numbers. This, in and of itself, guarantees that the aggressor is going to be portrayed in a somewhat negative light...just as the British are in any film about the American Revolution. It's not a shot at them as a nation / culture, but simply a portrayal of things that happened during that time as we perceive them.

From what I've read so far, the battle was engaged by Xerxes as punishment for the Greeks interference in the Ionian War. The odds were against them and yes, they lost. But they fought with honor, courage and incredible skill to give the Greeks time to prepare for battle. The thought that this small amount of men killed between 20,000 and 80,000 in three days is quite impressive.

Everyone seems to want to bring up racism anymore. The fact that it has existed in this world throughout recorded history, any film dealing with history is going to have some notion of it there. Maybe you just need to watch a film for what it is?

I don't think it was intentionally racist, just a very inaccurate representation of the Persian empire.

The movie was entertaining yet mindless. After watching it I was sort of worried that the movie came out at a bad time, and might be some kind of propaganda to fuel U.S troops and make them want to re-enact the movie.

I found out that it was based on a comic book though.

In the end, don't be so angry, U.S movies upset which ever country they portrait - Japan (Memoirs of a Geisha), China (Red corner), UK (Titanic), there's a long list. Just ignore the movie.

It is a time of myth. If you look at every fantasy movie to conclude your history about England and the rest of Europe, you're going to fail history, too. It is not racist. It wouldn't be racist regardless of how accurately portrayed the history. Shoot, most Americans don't even know what part of the world Persia was in, let alone associate some fictional movie with the Iran of today. Get over yourself.

NO. The movie is fictional first of all. Perhaps you should read a little on these times. Those people seriously believed that all those who were not of roman descendants were inferior. The time period was racist and sexist, and the film portrayed this greatly.

My my, aren't we the angry soul?

Oh, and Lara. I don't buy the 9/11 conspiracy garbage, but even if I did, I think you are giving "W" WAY TOO MUCH CREDIT.

Lighten up!!!!! The movie is based partly on history, with added touches of Hollywood. It was a great movie. Everything was exaggerated. But I have got to say those Spartans were so beautiful. Those men took my breath away.
