Why do we have people living in, not conducive to apes, cold climates? Why, when, how, would the first ape like or man like creatures go to a climate that is contrary to their habitat? Other than zoos, I seriously doubt that there are any apes calling, Alaska, Iceland, the North Pole, etc their home. I assume that, per the theory of evolution, life ,espically ape's, started in Africa or maybe South America. When and why would these yet man creatures, go to such locations? How did they get there? Were they smart enough to build boats? Did they know what they were getting into? I'm talking apes or ape like creatures, not yet fully man, in this question. Thank You.

Remember, by the way, that humans and apes are distant cousins, not descended from oneanother. It seems like you're under this impression, from your wording. Well instead of talking about apes or ape like creatures, I will talk about humanoids.

They were mostly nomadic, just following the herds of animals wherever they went. I doubt they had any idea where they were going. They most likely just followed herds of primitive beasts out of Africa as those beasts migrated or tried to get away from all the humanoids killing them in Africa.

And according to the Pangaea theory, the world's landmasses weren't always like they are now. Back when the humanoids lived, places like modern day Alaska, Iceland, and the North Pole could've been connected to oneanother. One example is the Bering Strait. Also, they would not all be in the locations they are in now. All the regions we think of as cold could've been much closer to the equator waay back when, so they were perfectly reasonable places to live. However tectonic plate shifting and such moved the continents, and as some of them got colder, the humanoids living there learned to adapt to the gradually colder climate.

Chinky's answer is pretty spot-on. It's also important to recognize that if groups of our ancestors were chasing animals into the more frigid climates, only those tribes with members who happened to be smart enough to figure out how clothing works would have survived.

Natural selection is just a politically correct way of saying "selection by death." In very competitive environments, genes that were beneficial survived long enough to be passed on. The rest died out. It's really a simple theory at the core.

To expand on what others have written, we need to put this rate of expansion out of the warmer area into perspective. This occurred over thousands of years and was most likely only a few people moving a few miles in any given lifetime.

The circumference of the earth is about 25,000 miles. In 100,000 years, the movement only needs to be 1/4 mile per year to curcumvent the entire globe.

1st of all evolution is sumtin dat takes place not by sum1`s intention dat yes now we want 2 evolve...!
it hapens wen sum1`s habitat is adversely changed and only the best genes wich can survive can breed the next gen..
in the case of apes the habitat was changed by nature....the tectonic plates.
wich moved&changed large masses of land in2 the world topography dat v know now exists
sum of these pieces carried our predesesors 2 europe ...the adverse condition over there rapidly accelerated their evolution
and about boats .........
man has had a very gradual increase in cranium size..so the quantity of grey cells required 2 build a boat(considerin dat their preoccupation of their focus was also less) is actually about half of wat v now possess
it is even said dat normal humans use only bout 10% of their brain........
