When the name Albert Pujols is mentioned I can't help but think of that great San Francisco philosopher, Barry Bonds. It was Balco Barry who said, and I quote, "Let's get past this steroids stuff and get back to watching the best player in baseball, Albert Pujols!"
Hey, guys, straight from the horse's mouth. Barry wouldn't lie to us... would he?

One the of best, yes. It's always difficult to lay claim to THE best. Only time will tell if he will be regarded as one of the very best of all time.
Stats don't mean much anymore. This is a very different era of baseball. What Mickey Mantle and Ty Cobb did can not be compared to what players do today.
Mantle played during the "dead ball" era and the gigantic ballpark era when hitting a 400 plus foot out was common place. Todays game is much more geared to the offense with the lower pitching mound and the smaller ballparks.
On the other hand pitching has changed a great deal in favor of the starters and relief pitchers. They don't throw nearly as many innings and are stronger as a result. Hitters have to be prepared for the middle relief and closers. Forty years ago starters would usually finish the game. At least more frequently.
Picking an all time great player will always be a subjective argument. That's the beauty of baseball!!!

I think Albert Pujols is one of the most talented players in the league, but that is as far as I go with that at all. When he said that Ryan Howard shouldn’t have won the MVP award because his team didn’t make the playoffs, I thought that was pretty funny. It was funny because the Phillies had a better record then the Cardinals, and the Cardinals who were in first the whole year almost didn’t make the playoffs. Yes, he is an incredible hitter but that is it, he’s not a base stealer or a defensive player, in fact, I think he is actually a liability on both cases. The fact that he actually has players around him doesn’t hurt as well, lets see what he would do if he was batting third on the Pirates or the Royals. He'll never be as good as Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig

I know what you're saying, and can agree with most of it.
He is an amazing baseball player, and I do think he will win MVP this year, but as for becoming better than Ty Cobb, I don't agree. Ty Cobb has a career batting average of .366, career steals of home at 54, and career batting titles at 11. Those numbers are hard to beat!! Let's just stick with beating Mickey Mantle, and then we'll see about Cobb.
And he'll probably be traded to NY sooner or later. I can totally see that happening.

APuj is a great hitter. As far as being MAntle or Cobb, I am not yet going that Far. Cobb was a basepath terror and generated runs with his wheels. Pujols doesn't run. Mantle would out power him today as well as the fact he is a switch hitter and could run reasonably well. AT this point I would most closely compare him to Hank reenberg or HAck Wilson. Both Hall of Famers, but not Cobb or Mantle caliber

Albert Pujols is great but would you really put him over Mantle, Ruth, Jackie Robinson, or Hank Aaron? You could make a case to put him over Robinson but Albert Pujols has yet to accomplish in his short career what Ruth, Mantle, or Aaron did. After all is said and done Pujols could be the best and will get the recognition because the people in St. Louis love their baseball.

i visit't understand why Pujols wasn't placed into the game both. i be conscious of if he had performed previously in the game then he ought to have had to play outfield somewhat of his conventional position once the playing cards were given again out to the sphere. yet...the 9th inning and nationwide crew has bases loaded with a danger to win or a minimum of tie the game? i imagine LaRussa replaced into no longer extremely smart for no longer having Pujols bat to provide the nationwide crew a struggling with danger. LaRussa says 'that wasn't the biggest element this evening.' What replaced into the biggest element? dropping the game?

Right now, he is definitely the best there is. Where he will end up on the list of all time greats remains to be seen. If he keeps doing as he has, he will emerge as the greatest ever, even though he does not and never will play as a Yankee or Dodger.
Chow!!

St.Louis people don't wanna hear it, but i think ild take a healthy Vlad Guerrero over Pujols... Only because of the Fielding, and yes i know Pujols is a Real good fielding first baseman, but they'll prolly move him AGAIN... so if i had to pic best All around, it would Be Vlad Guerrero or Arod. Pujols i think is best pure hitter in the game.
