An adverb is just that "it adds to the verb" it help give more information about a verb such "runs quickly," How did he run? "Quickly"
An adjective adds information to the noun such as "A large toad," large tells you about the toad.
Gerands are nouns made from verbs such as: sing, singing.
Participles are verbs that are used as an adjective and modify nouns and or pronouns, present participles end in "ing" and past participles end in "ed." For example: Sarah, playing in the sand, built a sand castle. OR Sarah's dress was not ironed.
