When I first heard the term 'emo' it was very alternative and meant (to me anyway!) bands like 'Dashboard Confessional' and 'Jimmy Eat World'. These days it seems that whiny bands with tragic make up = emo ('My Chemical Romance').

Are the following bands Emo and if not, what are they?
* A Simple Plan
* Good Charlotte

Thanks!

Emo has became whatever the radio and MTV want it to be. To me, emo is bands like Get-Up Kids, Jawbreaker, Ataris, Dashboard. ie. Independent emotional music, typically coming from broken hearts. As for Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, pop-punk. Then again though, genres are kinda gay.

Simple Plan and Good Charlotte are not emo. They're more, I don't know, pop-punk. Emo, to me is Dashboard Confessional, My Chemical Romance, etc.
