What is a good book for a female teenager to read. A book that keeps you thinking, and is not childish? Drama, mystery, sci-fi, are all good.

I must say, I enjoyed the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants series, but that was easy reading. I want something that makes you think, that makes you want to keep reading. What about Catcher in The Rye?

Scott Westerfeld is a good author for teen girls.
He has a series about "The Midnighters"
Two vampire books (interesting biological take) Peeps is the first one (not sure the title of the second)
He also has a series The Uglies, The Pretties, and The Specials.
A really good book is called Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
A very good sci-fi series is The Tripod Series written by Johnathan Christopher (The White Mountains, City of Gold and Lead, The Pool of Fire, and When the Tripods Came) Most girls and boys in my class have loved them, and I have to say that they are examples of some of the VERY BEST writing I have seen in children's fiction.
I've read all of these books (with the exception of the second Peeps related book) and they are all good.

My favorite teenage book was We Have Always Lived in the Castle - a drama/mystery by Shirley Jackson the remarkable author of the story The Lottery. I must have read it 20 times. You will absolutely adore Merricat. Check it out, It is a true classic. Adter that, another remarkable classic Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier - wonderful mystery. You will adore them both. I suggest skipping over the fluff reading and going straight for classic literature. Pax - C.

Hmm. Well I liked reading Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness series, but that's more fantasy..so I would reccommend Evil Genius by Catherine Jinks or The Betrayal of Bindy McKenzie by Jaclyn Moriarty.

Secret History (Donna Tartt).
A thriller no doubt about a murder. Loved it from start to finish. The best book I ever read. It's a Penguin Red Classic. You will love it if you find Harry potter kind of stories childish.

I liked Genesis, starting at the first verse, you could read all throughout ancient cultures and still hold the applicable parts to what we face today.
Immature boyfriends, people killing each other, they were all done back then, I like knowing that what I believe and what Hollywood isn't the same......its not the same, Hollywood likes glamourizing the models or gay people or stars, its just so not real to about 95% of us.

I recently read "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. I highly recommend it! It brought out more emotions in me than I can list! Great book!! Also, I really enjoyed all of the "Left Behind" series books (the adult version). They were riveting and it was difficult to put them down.
