Well, from your choices listed, I would say C, but my first inclination before I saw you limited the answers was to say that it prevents eye damage from looking directly at solar eclipses, but rather direct the image for viewing.

Yup, it is C. If you want to get into the photography of it, look into the relationship between "depth of focus" and "f-stop".
