My two year old got her finger stuck in a car door. The ER doc refused to do xrays, but today when I took her to her regular doctor to look at it (its still swollen after 20 days) he took an xray and saw a little bone piece completely detatched from any other bone near the bottom of her finger an inch below where it was smashed. He sent the film to a specialist to see what to do. My question is- did the bone fragment travel there from the tip of her finger? Could it possibly be a real danger to her? How would something like this be fixed, or would it be left alone? What does all this mean? I'm kind of freaking out here I guess....

See bone is natures gift to the body. Even if a small piece is broken and lost that portion is restored by the bone marrow and in six weeks the bone will be automatically regenerated. Regarding the fragmented and travelled far bone which is one of the medical wonders what would be done is the finger would be operated and the bone piece is removed and thats all the whole thing about it. You need not worry or panic everything would be alright and the broken bone would regenerate and the fragment piece removed that all.

I would check with another doctor. I was always under the impression that a broken bone could be dangerous. Not meaning to scare you, but bone marrow is poisonous.
