Am I correct in assuming the "friend" was charged with whatever was in the car? His defense is that the items were actually yours? Neither he nor his lawyer can "charge" you with a crime, only the government can do that. However, he can "summons" you to court as a WITNESS.
Now, can the police charge you with a crime, even though they let you go before. Sure, there is no law against that.

Sounds like you might want to start picking your friends a little more carefully.

Here's a thought. Go to the police or, better yet, the prosecutor, and tell them of your friend's threat. If they want to convict this guy they will help you out.

yes, and heres why. it is unconstiutional for you to be tried twice for the same crime, but the police are investigators not convitors or judges so it doesnt count as a trail if you go to the police station it only counts as evidence. what i would do is get a good lawyer, plee ignorance to it even being in your car, and make sure the judge knows that if you did know he had it in your car you would kick him out imidetly no questions asked. your kinda screwed because it was in your car and your responicble for every thing that goes on it it (realy sorry) but you could get off with some easy comunity service and it probably wont get it on your permanat record unless youve had a previous offence. it will probably put you under a "probation" of sorts, not one where you have to check in with an offeicer every month but if you screw up with the same offence again your fine will get the full fine maybey even jail time plus youll have to pay off the rest off the fine from last time. i know it sucks but just be caarefull for a year and no a parking tiket wont affect any thing so dont worry about stuff like that. hope this helps

You can still be charged with something even if the cops let you go before. Sorry dude. Get a good lawyer.

Yes, if they have reason to believe you might be guilty. Doesn't sound like a friend to me. If you had been tried and acquitted they couldn't charge you again.
