Ok, well i'm in my last year of high school in New Zealand. I started a new high school this year. In english we had to write a practice essay on our film study. I don't think I put in much effort, or tried my very hardest. Never the less, I got excellence (you can either get- not achieved, acieved, merit or excellence)

How can I show some improvement on that? At my old school I would have only got an achieved for that essay.

(i'm not bragging. I want to do my very best this year but I don't feel like his marks are a fair representation of my work. In other words I really don't feel I deserve this mark)

I am in Canada and in last year of my high school too. We could make a deal: switch our English teachers. Kidding. The teacher I had last year was a pretty lenient marker and I got way better marks I am getting from the teacher right now. But on the other hand he is old and more experienced too. It all kind of depends on your teacher. Some teachers are geeks and they are really into their subject (more than other teachers) and this also could be because of your new teacher's experience.
I think you are really honest and nice but maybe your other teacher was psycho (no offense) and this one is better and it could be other way around too. The best thing you can do right now is talk to your current teacher and find out why he/she likes your work. I am sure your teacher will have some valid reason for giving you that kind of mark.
And one more thing, sometimes when people in a class are not generally "expressive" and stuff like that in English, teacher tends to give higher mark than usual, otherwise the class average would be low.
You seriously are lucky and I appreciate your honesty but you might just be wrong or too selfless and doubtful about your abilities. The best way to deal with this problem is to have a conversation with your teacher.
Good Luck!

I think it great that you want to do your best at school.I would try not to worry about the mark the teacher gave you.Perhaps you are being too critical of your effort.I don't think the teacher would give you a mark you didn't earn.Keep up the good work.If you still want to reassure yourself this was a fair and accurate mark ask your teaher to go over your essay mark with you. Just a thought, some subjects are marked on subjective criteria so that may explain the difference in teacher's marks.

If you are making the highest marks with the lowest effort, there really isn't anything you can do to improve your grade- it's as high as it's going to be. The issue is that you KNOW you are not preforming to your highest standard. When you have an assignment, do your best work possible. If you are going on to uni then you will have the skills that you need to be successful. If you get in the habit of slaking off now, it will carry with you, believe me! Always strive to do your very best!! Good luck!

When I was in high school, I had a German language teacher who gave me the highest grade no matter what I did. It happens sometimes.
To show improvement, try extra credit work, or activities.
