something about they were driving to try and find survivors, maybe from a bomb. Driving accross U.S. and come into small town, no people only skeletons and then come giant cockroaches, like football size. They ate everyone. Can barely kill them, they used a manhole cover to squash one. Any clue?

I believe you've described that post-apocalyptic film made in the 1970s starring George Peppard & Jan-Vincent Michael. It was called "Damnation Alley". I hope this helps with your search!
