Absolutely! The tone of the poem is basically the mood of the person who wrote it at the time that (s)he wrote it!

it would be because the tone is like your mood. and how u said "serious" thats ur mood and being depressed is definately your mood status

Depressing is an apt description; you could also use, moody, dark, soulful, gloomy, mournful, miserable, or unhappy.
