Ok, what do you think about the name Max for a boy? My fiance wants to name our son after his grandpa who had a huge influence in his life and has since passed. Ok, Im open. But do we name him just MAX? or Maximilian, or Maxwell, or any other suggestion? And how many of you out there hate the name? I keep thinking of a DOG, since it is like the #1 dog name out there. Should I be worried? And are people going to call him Gluteus Maximus or Maxi Pad? Whatcha think?

I honestly dont think that he knows his grandpa's full name! But he went by Max, so I think that's what it will be. What do you think of the middle name Robert to go with? It is both of our fathers' First name. Lucky! Max Robert

To the girl who said Max and Maggie were popular dog names...I have a best friend named Maggie, her bro is Max and her sis is Molly. That is a pop. dogs name too. Weird huh?

Go with Max... no other version. It is really nice name and strong by it's self. I love it. And Max Robert sounds awesome. My husband and I plan to name a boy when we have one, Xaivier - the cabbage patch kids inventor (NO!!! We didnt get the name from there haaa...) name is Xaiver Roberts... So Robert goes great with any name that has an "x" in it.
If you keep picturing a dog when you think of your baby I would then reconsider thinking of a way different name. How about Xavier or Xander if you like the "x".
I use to love the name Bryce for a little girl after the actress Bryce Howard - but I just could never keep frizzy red hair out of my mind when I thought of naming a baby that so I had to drop it.
Congrads!!!!!!!!!!:)

I think Max is a GREAT name -- very strong, very simple. It's unique, but not trendy. Classy, but not stuffy. An excellent choice. Yes, it is a popular dog name, but so is Maggie and I love that name too... Besides, there's a reason people choose it for their pets... it's a cool name! I am not a fan of Max Robert, however. Doesn't really "flow" all that well, in my opinion. Some suggestions:
Max Xavier (kind of cool having two Xs in your name)
Max Jameson
Max Donnelly

My vote's for Maxwell.
Not to reinforce the dog thing -- I mean, I had a middle-school boyfriend who was a 'Max' -- but I have a cat named 'Max(well).'
'Max-well' comes out decently in a sing-song voice should you want to call him, and 'MAX!' can easily be spoken sternly when he scratches the sofa, I mean, er, you know...
Either version is fine. Yeah, he might get 'maxi pad,' but that's low-risk as teasing goes. Kids will make fun of anything, and you only need to worry about it if it's going to be exacerbated by it being a bad name in the first place, which 'Max(well)' isn't.
This book:
http://www.freakonomics.com/thebook.php
has a chapter on baby names which mentions Max -- favourably. And in the same breath as 'Sophie,' which, co-incidentally, is Max's sister's name. Should you ever have a girl, I daresay they go well together... But, class/taste/popularity/etc-wise, they're very similar.

Almost any name you come up with, kids are going to find a teasing name for it.
I personally like the name Max (just Max, not Maxwell--that's a guarantee of a life of pain). It sounds strong.

Max is a really strong name and I like it! It's important for your finance to name him after his grandpa so go ahead no matter how many people say no on here.
