India is a colorful country with different type of people, language, religion, cast etc. We can find the change from state to state; this is the beauty of India ’unity in diversity’. But there is a weakness in Indians, Indians are very superstitious.
Before continuing my review I would like to request that what ever I write in this review is my point of view, there is no intention to hurt any ones feelings. I hope u all will take this in a right manner.
Since my childhood I have being living between thepeople of different religions and cast, so I have an idea of different culture and worship methods of different people. Hindu religion is one of the biggest religions in India; it is one of the religions which have beautiful culture and traditions .I fell that Hindus are more superstitious than any other religion, they have thousands of gods, for marriages they give more importance to kundlu, mohurtham, rahukal etc. Then I have seen pandiths who not even drink water from low cast people. The custom in India changes from state to state. In Hindus itself I have seen different methods of worship, some are very funny and some are very dangerous too. During my school days, one Bihari family was living near my house. There was one person who spent most of his time in puja room; this room was full of posters of different gods and goddess. Some time we use to here screaming and shouting sounds from there house. Earlier we thought some accident might have occurred, but later we found that it was the part of puja (worship) actually he was beating one boy with sticks to remove the evil spirit from him. Unfortunately that boy was my good friend who later died due to this torture. This boy was suffering from malaria and his parent’s in spite of taking him to the hospital brought him to this man; here he was tortured with hot wax and sticks.
Then I have seen some funny customs also there was one pandithji in our locality who some time call cows roaming around and give rotis (Indian bread), and then he takes Ashivards (blessings) by touching the cows head. After all this drama when the cows refuse to leave his courtyard he brings a big stick and beat the cow.
In Hindu religion we can find thousands of gods, I realized that every third person in Hindus believe in different god. It is a well known fact that Ramayana and Mahabharata is an ethic means (kalpanic katha) written by valmiki. If Ramayana is an ethic then how does ram become god and why are people praying to him? If it is an ethic then why is this ram janm bhumi (birth place of ram) issue and why people wasting there time in fighting for the one who doesn’t exists? Similarly I have seen people praying to trees like banyan tree, neem, banana, tulsi etc. Worshiping animals like cow, elephants, snake, monkey, rivers etc. Just think how these things can hear your prayers. In India people have more faith in these than themselves. I think this is the area where we have to think about.
There is only one God Hindus call him Brahma, Muslims call him Allah and Christians call him Jesus. Christians and Muslims are maintaining the same traditions from thousands of years. This is because they are united and having control on its people, like Muslims are controlled by Mecca, Christians are under Pope, all the Christians in the world have the same rules and are maintaining the discipline. I think Hindus lacks this kind of leadership, they have to be controlled by good leader otherwise there faith will go in wrong direction which is happening in India. I don’t want to hurt any one feeling. It is true we follow what our parents taught us in our childhood. I just want to ask you is that not important for you to know about whom you have faith more than your parents, yourself or any body else.
Only India has maximum number of public holydays in the world, in this way we are wasting many working hours. My dear friends I just want you all to live and think practically.
I apologies if any of my comment have hurted any ones feeling. I hope you will take this in a good way.
I will be waiting for the comments on this review.

Indians are superstitious, but no more than others. Infact majority of Indian superstitions make sense.
All 'superstitions' started for a reason, but as people were not told the reason (Little children should not ask questions!!! or because lay people would not be able to grasp the logic behind certain actions) they became superstitions.
And when people don't know the reason, they continue to do the same things, though the reason is no longer relevant. For example, many people do not cut their nails at night. It is a 'superstition'. But originally, this was done because there was no electricity back then, it was not safe to cut one's nails without proper light. But now that we have electricity, its perfectly fine to cut nails at night. The original logic having been lost, it is now merely a superstition.
So, yes Indians are superstitious, but they are also much smarter than most people. There are scientific reasons behind majority of Indian superstitions, even the mourning after a death, daily habits, etc. On the other hand there are non-Indian superstitions regarding numbers 13, 666, etc. There are possibly religious reasons, but no LOGIC or scientific reasons.

India has a blend of most diversified cultures. The essence may be the same, but the paths are different. Each Indian semi-culture has it's own beliefs - logical and superstitious. THis gives rise to a picture of most number of superstitions being followed in India. However, most of these superstitious beliefs are not followed. Some of these superstious beliefs are contradictory too.
All the best...

Indians are less superstitious than many others. The one difference is we have a larger pool on unanswered questions as compared to many others and do not find suitable answers. Agressive onslaughts, slavery create a resource crunch in passing on reasons and logic for actions. Years later finding no immediate logical answers we may term them as superstitions.

No, all religions are superstitious.
You can not say just because Rome has better buildings therefore theirs are real, while the poor Indians are nothing but lack of educations.

First decide what are superstitions. There is a scientific basis for superstitions. In Hindu homes it is common even now to wash oneself at least the hands feet and face whenever they come from outside. Scientifically too it is correct to clean the feet, hand and face etc after coming from outside since lot of disease causing bacteria, dust etc might have attached to our feet etc when we roam outside. Likewise for each little superstitions, there is a definite meaning. People won't understand you when you talk about bacteria or microbes. They understand only curt instructions. Clean yourself before enter into the house. Secondly whenever any body is affected with small pox , Hindus do not use any medicine. The patient is laid on the margosa (neem) leaves and covered with neem leaves. They have been told that neem leaves are indication of divine mother who causes the disease. They are cured without any medicines. Secondly no body else is allowed near the patient stating that it will spoil the sanctity of divine. But scientifically neem leaves are the best remedy for small pox. People are disallowed to visit because the other fellow also may catch the virus causing the disease. Hence nothing is really superstition. Since the lay people may not understand the underlying truth, they have been asked to conduct themselves in a particular manner. nagarajan.

No, just cautious. You see, in 1854 , my great, great, great grandfather, Rene the Roaming Romeo , went to the west to find a spiritual path. Well, when all the Indian women saw him, they just could not control themselves! He tried to get away, but to no avail. The Indian women forced themselves upon poor grandfather Rene, and the broken hearted Indian women cried for months on end when he left. That is why the Indians do not like the french, because of the name, Rene, It reminds them of a time when ole' granddad was there!
