I'm SO excited to be going to my first NHL game in just under two weeks, but am a little unsure of what to expect as I will be cheering for the visiting team. I regularly attend minor league games where, when visiting another arena, it's not all that unusual to have things thown at/on the visiting fans. Is this common in NHL as well? Because I've been looking so forward to this and don't really want the expereince to include wearing someone's beer, I've been considering cheering the home team or making my boyfriend dress as a home team fan to act as a "buffer." :) Is there some sort of unspoken etiquitte I should know about? Am I just being paranoid? If it helps, we're going to the Blues/Ducks game in St. Louis.

I went to my first two away-games this year (Flames at Ducks and Kings), and have seen away fans at the home games and this is what I've notice.

Don't gloat if you are winning....cheer them on, but don't rub it if your team wins....especially if it wins big.

Don't try to stick out in the crowd. Wear your team's jersey, no problem, but don't over do it. Face painting, noise makers, the entire wardrobe.....a bit over doing it. You are basically asking for people to take cheap shots at you.

Don't beat a dead horse.....I mean, if the call goes against your team or if your team loses, don't go on and on about it. Let it be, as no one around you really wants to hear about it.

Otherwise enjoy yourself and respect the other fans and you will be fine (luckily the Ducks/Blues isn't a huge rivalry like the Flames/Oilers or it would be a different story!!)

You will have no problems. I have went to a few games in St. Louis wearing Blackhawk gear (even when the Hawks were not in town), and the fans are almost scary polite. The building will probably not be sold out either, so less fans to yell at you.
But don't worry about the St. Louis fans. They have class. Just don't the that girl who after a goal by the Ducks, stands up and makes sure everyone behind her knows a goal has been scored. In someone else's "house", it is o.k. to cheer, but don't be a jerk in doing so. 10,000 Blues fans don't want it rubbed in their noses.
Be polite, and you will have a great time.

I think the main problem is the fact you are cheering for a awful team. Blues fans are cool though. It is a cool place to see a game. It is good you are going to see the game in ST Louis-their fans are pretty knowledgeable and fun. Your smart to stay away from Honda center-its always half empty (that's why the ducks will be moving to Portland or Vegas soon)-the fans are ignorant-and ice is the worst in the league. Part of my being a hockey fan is visiting all the arenas-so I know a lot about them-although I will be going to Phoenix in two weeks and I have no idea what to expect! Have fun at your game.

First of all let me just say..Go Ducks!! Next, yes it is common for you to get stuff thrown on you when your cheering for the visiting team..especially if they win..which they should since theyre playing the Blues. but the most important thing is to be proud of your team..be proud to be a Ducks fan. dont let anyone tell you that you shouldnt be no matter how they threaten you. and making your boyfriend dress as a buffer is a smart idea. i like it.

I have been to a handful of hockey games and have only seen arguments between the visiting fans if the visiting fans really make an *** of themselves by yelling, screaming, name calling etc. You should be fine. Also, laws still apply while in the arena and in all games I have been to the ushers/security will get involved if someone is getting crazy regardless of what team they follow.

There will probably be more Ducks fans there than Blues. I think the Blues are drawing like 7500 fans. NHL fans are great fans. You would have more chance of problems at a NBA or NFL game than a NHL game. Most of all have fun!

You'll be fine cheering for an opposing team. Here in Detroit we have FUN with it.There are no throwing things at fans,or UN-sportsman like conduct towards the fans at the game.Stay away from a crowded bar if the home team looses though.HA HA!!!

You should be excited. Hockey is an exciting game to both watch, and if your lucky, participate. They have good fans in St. Louis

St. Louis fans are O.K. as long as you are not a Red Wings or Blackhawks fan. You should be able to get good seats. Good Luck.
