At each person's height they both were Rock peaked after Austin did by a couple years. Going from 96 to 99-ish austin had the run of things as Rock was slowly working his way up throught the nation of domination and the Corporation, The Rock eventually took the reigns as Austin health and personal issues with creative decisions got worse when Austin came back from being run over Rock had essentially stole the show from him they were about even during his come back and then the Invasion angle gave it all to the Rock never to be regained In terms of money Jim Ross quotes in his blog Austin pulled more for the biz. By means of career success Rock had the belt 7 times which is the record. By means of mic skills hands down the rock, by in ring ability at there peaks its close but Im going with Austin he only does the stunner now and he never jumped around alot but his matches with Bret Hart and there fued in 96/97 displayed his abilities better than any other time in his career, The Rock had his chance against angle to demonstrate the same and never really did, Going strictly by those who like wrestling Austin was bigger but if you count those who are fans of movies who watch wrestling only after a wrestler does a movie Rock gains an edge children also tilt to the rock for his more cartoon like character where as adults can relate to Austin and appreciate his abilities in the ring Questions a lil vaige so depending on how you meant it i think i covered it

Stone Cold Steve Austin!
the Stone Cold Steve Austin character jumpstarted the "Attitude" era. Sure, The Rock was a huge superstar in his own right, but you have to give credit where credit is due: Stone Cold is the trailblazer of WWF Attitude. It (for the most part) started with the timeless quote "You sit there and you thump your Bible and say your prayers, and it didn't get you anywhere! Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16... Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ***!"
from heel to anti-hero.

The Rock. Stone Cold was very very popular and like I've said before in other questions similar to this one, Stone Cold carried the WWF show for a long long time. But your talking at the height of their careers, then its the Rock-hands down. Because the Rock is still going strong. Austin's health is questionable and has been for some time, like many greats that is his downfall.

TOUGH QUESTION! Matter of fact, "very tough". If I had to choose - I would say Stone Cold. Now I enjoyed The Rock especially when he would talk "smack" - but to choose between these 2 superstars is like asking you to pick your favorite between your mother and father. The one thing that I do hold against The Rock is the fact that WWE got him started and exposed to the world, and he has even stated himself that he would always be loyal to where he got his start and to the WWE fans. He could make an appearance from time to time but has not done that for quite a while. But the original question is who was considered the "bigger" of the two AT THEIR HEIGHT OF FAME. I say "The Rattlesnake".

Well, I would have to say Stone Cold, b/c before I became a wrestling fan, the only wrestler I'd ever heard of was Stone Cold. However, the Rock was VERY good at popping off at the mouth, so people loved him. Stone Cold seemed to have a steady fan base, but the Rock's shot up.

Arguably "Stone Cold" because it wasn't until the Rock joined Vince McMahon's Corporation and stared feuding with Austin that he really started to gain some momentum.
In other words, much of the Rock's stardom was due to Austin.
