As a citizen, I believe there are no second-class citizens. All men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.
If straight people are allowed to marry the people they wish to marry, then homosexuals should be allowed to marry the people they wish to marry. Same rights for everyone.
This isn't about a ceremony, this isn't about a "validation of a lifestyle." This is about the State recognizing the legal relationship between two adults and giving them legal protections. That straight people can get married and then gain additional protections under the law, and homosexuals cannot do the same thing, makes state regulation of marriage unconstitutional as it does not provide for equal protection under the law.
Nobody should more or fewer rights than anyone else.

I am appalled at the ignorance of some of the answers on this page. One needs to be reminded of the hate and insults and name calling that is so prominent... still. It is a reminder of what the results of a poor educational system are.
And furthermore... God did not make a decision about marriage, his followers did... children everywhere need to be in a loving home period. Marriage is a legal right NOT a religious right.
Homosexuality is NOT an mental illness... grow up! get informed and OPEN yr mind!

The answers posted here, are for the most part, the most ignorant, narrow minded, mean spirited and just plain sad I have ever read. How could it possibly hurt you for gay americans to live their lives with the same rights as all americans? If there "were" to be such a thing, (second class citizens) it would be those of you that hate without cause!

how can any one deny that homosexuality is not only abnormal but, a disgrace and abomination unto man kind and god, do you see animals being homos?sure they run up and smell of another animal and investigate . but, when it is obvious they are the same sex , they go different ways or fight. we all know homo's try to get others to join in their filthy games and are very convincing to some young people, especially the weak minded, I think it should be Illegal for any one to cohabitate with someone of the same
sex, and as far as their civil rights" hell no" we want true men and women in our country, our society has enough problems without compounding them with such filth.
unless god comes back soon he will need to resurrect Sodom and Gomorrah and apologize

I don't believe in gay rights.
I believe in human rights.
And homosexuals are humans. Right?
You can't be for human rights and against equal rights for all humans.

As far as I see it homosexuals have as many rights as anyone does. They have the right to vote and to remain silent. Why do homosexuals need validation from heterosexuals for their life style. I stand by... don't ask, don't tell and please I don't want to see anything. Isn't it amazing that heterosexuals are shacking up in record numbers and won't marry no matter what while homosexual are all bent out of shape because they want a little ceremony. Go figure.
