She was the daughter of the indian chief, that is the equivalent of princess, so why isn't she allowed in Disney princess stuff with all the white girls? I knew he hated women but he's gone. So who hates the indians? And thank god they stopped killing all the moms.

I think the same way about Meg out of Hercules. She marries the prince of the Gods, so wouldn't that make her a princess? That's how Belle became a princess, by marring a prince. She was a poor farm girl before that. Meg and Pocahontas are certainly more of princesses than Mulan is. I love Mulan, but she gets with the general, not a prince. I wonder about that sometimes, but we'll probably never know why they leave some of these women out.

If I am not mistaking I believe the way Disney has made each character a princess was each of one of them married a prince. Pocahontas never married John Smith. In one story I have read to my daughter she ends up in love with one of his ship partners. I think this is a bit confusing for the little girls who love the princess collect ables, but we still read these enchanted sequels of everlasting happiness to them each night! I wish I could help more. I understand!

I think Pocahontas was added recently, along with Mulan (who really has no claim to being a princess, but who rocks anyways). I've heard that there will be an upcoming movie, "The Frog Princess," which will introduce Disney's first African-American princess.

Well, if you want to get technical, Chief Powhatan had MANY CHILDREN. She just happened to be his favorite. She wasn't thought of as a princess. However, the movie is totally wrong anyway (she just befriends John Smith, she marries John Rolfe), so why bother with the little details?

i was wondering the same thing. i really do think that they want the disneey characters to be white stunning girls and they probably think that pocahonatas wont fit with the rest because of her race/color of skin.
