This will really upset the Turks, but the Kurds have proven to be very good allies, and they like The U.S. quite a bit. We can NOT desert them twice. We must maintain a presence and friendship with those who have stood by us faithfully!

It will also be a slap in the face to both the Sunni's and the Shiites, as it defacto recognizes Kurdistan as independent (and neither wants the Kurds to go, and take their oil fields with them).

It also sets the stage for another war up there, of course. And do we arm them? Defend them?

The only reason there is not a Kurdistan today is because of Turkey, and its desire to keep its own Kurdistan under control.

I think there is some validity to your statement. I like the idea but anything we do with the Kurds must be coordinated with Turkey. I think there could be an opportunity to work through Turkish and Kurdish issues. Possibly a chance for peace and cooperation.

I would like see that.
