some things about philosophy i think are pretty rediculous. like doubting yours or anybody elses existence.

for example, alot of people will answer questions or say things like "life is an illusion of our nonexistent minds". and then act like what they just said was incredibly deep and thought provoking. when in reality it makes no sense at all and is nothing more then a pseuodo philisophical statement to make they speaker seem smart.

i also think it tries to disprove science. and alot of philsosophesr say "science assumes there is a reality". which is also rediculous. science is of course a type of philosophy but it is a factual one, and to desregard it is wrong.

and another thing is that philosophy gets so caught up in its own language trying to prove that we exist that in the end of the arguement they are exactly when they started. there like dogs chasing there own tails, when you can ask any 5 year old and they will have a more logical answer.

I do however think that philosophy is great when it comes to creating theories about the unkonwn and creating ideas and opinions on other things that we can never realy have the answers to. would you agree?

I used to think it was pointless and useless.

Philosophy is a field of study that focuses on that which is entirely subjective and can never, ever be proved, ever. I couldn't understand why one would even bother.

Now I believe that, at the very least, studying it allows us to learn to think in new ways; in more creative ways.

Philosophy doesn't, in general, attempt to disprove science or anything else. In fact, attempting to do so can be scepticism. That is both a formal school of philosophy and huge part of any legitimate scientific approach.

Philosophy challenges us to question our own views as well as those of others. It asks us to define and defend our perspectives.

Einstein suggested that we cannot ever know any subject if we cannot explain it to a five year old child. That is the nature of philosophy. It is one thing to know the formulae and data, it is quite another to be able to translate what that means to you in a way that another person with less ability and a different way of thinking can understand.

Philosophy is like art. It is an art of sorts. It is useful. It is not exact. It takes many different forms. There are no absolutes. There are myriad perspectives & styles. You find something that resonates with you & that works for you. It is subjective. Some people say that art is useless. It is not utilitarian in the sense that some things are. But art is what makes life beautiful & meaningful. It inspires us. It enlightens us. How bleak and boring the world would be without art or philosophy!

To my mind, philosophy is logical thinking without any preconceived bounds or prejudice. It takes different shapes and meanings to different people depending on what they have been through which makes it more useful than any fixed ideas that treat all people as equal. The greatest usefulness lies in its proper adaptation to own life situations and conditions. In the final analysis, philosophy is the sole key to attain happiness on a sustained basis..... typically different ideas and ways to achieve the same most desirable goal, namely happiness or peace of mind. As distinct from science, it does not aim at unraveling 'the truth'... instead it opens up the mental horizon for each of us to find 'own truth' which need not be the same for everyone.

Usefulness of philosophy lies in how it is uniquely put to use in real life situations that are as variable as everyone is compared to everyone else.
