This UEFA Champions League has certainly not been that exciting, and has been dominated by defensive teams such as Liverpool, PSV, Chelsea, Milan and Bayern Munich. The teams that aim to entertain, such as Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Werder Bremen have exited the competition.

There also has been no outstanding teams and no outstanding players. The negative football tactics that have been deployed by managers have hurt the magic of European cup ties for the fans. Mangers are scared of losing, and play to not make mistakes. This ruthless approach is especially prevelant to the way Chelsea play. They are boring but effective.

It seems that many teams are still being built and are not complete yet. Arsenal falls into this category as Arsene Wenger builds the third generation of Gunners at the Emirates. Many of the players are very young, but may well eventually develop into European champions within the next few years. Don't underestimate Arsenal despite their difficult season. Real Madrid is also in transition and will likely continue to be next year as well, as Fabio Capello is not well liked by fans, especially for his defensive type tactics that are not part of the way that Real Madrid traditionally play. Barcelona have been plagued by injury to Samuel Eto'o as well as controversy off the pitch between Eto'o and Ronaldinho and speculation that Rijkaard may look to leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season. Papers in Italy claim that Ronaldinho is ready to make a move to Milan.

Many players have disappointed in the Champions League, even for teams that have made it to the quarterfinals. Arjen Robben, such a brilliant player, has seen his creativity stifled while at Chelsea. Ronaldinho has not hit top form in Europe this season, nor has Messi.

Players who have impressed on some level include Didier Drogba and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both are having the best seasons of their career.

As for the winner this year, a matchup between Chelsea and Milan is not out of the question. However, Manchester United may have something to say about this, and if their players remain free of injury stand a good chance of lifting the cup in May.

I think the UEFA Champions League is still great - just because Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and other so called "top clubs" are no longer there, it does not mean the Champions League has lost its prestige!

It is the best and grows stronger and stronger!!

The Champions League is still an amazing tournament. I am sorry that the "top clubs" are not longer in it, but that is just what happens sometimes.

There are a lot of people who do not agree with you. I know you have every right to tell us your opinion. BUT, surely if you feel this strongly about it, maybe you should just stop watching it. "YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE".
