Led Zep is the most over-rated band ever. They stole everything they did from previous musicians and Page and Plant are the most arrogant, full of themself, out of touch people on the planet. Humble Pie, The Who, Deep Purple, Ten Years After, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, dozens of others have equal, if not more,claim to any "Godfather" label, which is meaningless anyways. They're legends in their own minds, and a few suck-up writers, but really not that important or influential.

Led Zeppelin laid the groundwork for heavy metal and Black Sabbath (not Alice Cooper, he came later) took what they started and ran with it, though I have never heard them called "The Godfathers of Metal". I think most would actually give that award to Black Sabbath. I think Led Zeppelin is actually considered the Godfathers of hard rock if anything else, and a close relative of metal.

because they did lay down the platform for metal even though iommi from sabbath invented the sound zeppelin invented the style along with both contributing to the power house vocals...yeah thats my answer!!!!!

I dodnt know about god fathers but jimmy page is known for the first usage of alternate tunning "DADGAD"
