I've obviously assessed my own opinion but would like to hear what you have to say on the matter.

I have never ridden a motorbike in my life, so perhaps one requires this ingrained ability to an extent.

I like the answer from Ed_210.

Here are my thoughts on your question.
-Normally you will use less fuel then a car
-The feeling of freedom it gives you.
-You take up less space then a car. This means you can get through thick traffic faster and find parking faster.
-Some places the law says you can go to the front of traffic at red lights and traffic jams. Other places just turn a blind eye to you when you do.
-cheap bikes have cheaper insurance and almost all have cheaper taxes then cars.

Get some drivers training and take a safety course. While bikes are inherently more dangerous then cars they are also inherently much more fun a mode of transportation.

ed_210 and shovelkicker are right!

It's alot of fun, economical on gas and better manuvering in traffic jams. Down side is the inherent risks of being more exposed to the elements, and that car drivers just do not respect a bike as they would another car. Neither can you carry as much cargo or people as you would be able to in a car. Aslo a bike is a bit easier to steal than a car. Harley's seem to be a prime target.
There is also the camaradrie (sp?) of fellow riders. A 'fellowship of the Wind', so to speak.
I have been riding several years and consider the bike my "Wind Therapy". I've made alot of friends because of owning and riding a bike. I'm an ICU nurse and am aware of the risks in riding. As an adult I accept those risks, just like anyone who has a hobby or entertainment that carries a risk.
Just take a MSF safety class before you start riding. It will give you an idea if this is something you want to get into. Also the MSF card you recieve will make a difference on your insurance once you purchase a bike.

Chicks dig guys on bikes.. and scars, they dig that too.

Seriously though. I think anyone that rides will tell you it's in their blood. There are many reasons why people ride.
A motorcycle is a very cost efficient form of transportation that pollutes much less than a car.
That's not why I ride though.
Felling the sun on your back and the wind blowing past you as you ride down your favorite twisty road. Feeling the temperature drop as you ride into a shady wooded area.
In a car, you are just looking out the window, watching the scenery. on a bike, you are the scenery.
There's also the danger aspect. You know that it's dangerous and that you can easily get hurt. But your not, your in control and connected to the road. Its a huge adreneline rush.
It's not for everyone though. You need to get into it for the right reasons.

Do yourself a huge favor and take the MSF course before you even seriously consider buying a motorcycle. Riding one isn't like most people think it is, having seen the movies (stick your hand outside the window of your car the next time you're doing 60mph and that's a taste of what it's like to ride a bare bones cruiser on the highway).

Advantages are they are a ton of fun, they're very economical, and they are just a ton of fun. They are absolute freedom.

Disadvanatages, they are very dangerous (err...what...DRIVERS are very dangerous, motorcycles themselves are only slightly more dangerous then cars). Keep in mind that you WILL wreck a motorcycle, especially in the beginning. It's a given.

I know I've said it before on here, but I'll say it again, because it's just so true:

There are two types of riders, those who HAVE crashed, and those who WILL crash. Without exception.
