I often answer questions here about the meaning of life saying that there is none. I "know" this to be true.
My main reason for this is that everthing is temporary. Whether humans die in 200 years or 200 million years, we will die some day.
Is there any other real criteria for "meaning" than "eternal"? If any life form will eventually die, how can it's life have "meaning"? Why are humans more "meaningful" than fleas?
I'm willing to hear other options, but I hope they go beyond the idea that human lives have meaning simply because of emotional needs.

PS, let me be clear, a nihilist/atheist perspective. If you're going to tell me about god's plan for me, it's falling on deaf ears. You might as well tell me about the tooth fairy's plan for my adolescent teeth.

Compassionatesoul, I simply can't accept something ONLY b/c it seems foolish not to. Is it foolish to think that there is no purpose? Maybe... but that doesn't mean it's wrong.
I'm sure a flea (if it could think) would say the same thing about itself. And I'm sure that any given flea's life and even all flea's lives amount to nothing.

A real nihilist would have no need of asking this question. Wake up to your own fraudulent intellectual games, Ronin.
The "meaning of life" issue vexes you so because of your incompetence, on display here, with intangibles, connotative meaning, and rubrics.

Yeah. that's what i've got consistently believed. many times talking, there is not any sturdy or undesirable track. Like they say, one guy's treasure is yet another guy's trash. So, this implies Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers etc. are no longer undesirable track. An Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Beatles etc. are no longer sturdy track. some people will argue approximately skills. yet basically because of the fact a musician has skills doesen't recommend all people ought to like the track. truthfully, i will checklist my fingernails tapping a beat on the table and that i'm specific somebody in this international will locate that extra perfect than a Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix solo. the nicely-known of track is one hundred% subjective and not something.

im not a nihilist. im more a an existentialist. i beleive that life has no meaning or value until you give it maning and value. to me life will eventualy end. however i can shape myself and my life in to something meaningful to myself. realy we are no more special that a flea. but whatever life is, it does indeed serve a purpose. and that purpose is to sustain life. even if it is temporary you can still make it into something. better have a temporary happiness instead of a temporary misery.

From a Nihilist perspective, we are no better than fleas. Nor is there any valid concept of better. You need to read Faust.

All things would have no meaning that way. There would be no reason for things like selflessness or charity. It would definitely be every man and flea for himself. It also would not have any expressions of love, or kindness, or compassion either.
Life has absolutely no meaning without some sort of spirituality. Whether or not you believe anything is higher than yourself, there doesn't need to be a change in behavior, whatever got the universe rolling probably walked away and left it to fend for itself anyway. You don't have to live to be able to die.

My dear friend, You seem to be confused. You have rightly understood few truths of life by seeing them, like the temporary nature of this world. But your problem is that you don't want to accept that there are few things that we can't see but they exist.

How can you expect a purpose from a Nihilist perspective? Isn't it foolish to think that this gigantic creation is functioning on its own (without any controller)?
Isn't it foolish to think that everyone is dying just without any reason?
Isn't it foolish to think that everyone is just living life without any purpose?
How can this so beautiful creation exist without any purpose at all?

Wake up my friend, Open your "deaf ears" and try to see the unseen. Otherwise unfortunately you will live and die like fleas only. Please try to understand that there is something higher in life than you and you are not the controller but the controlled.

Sorry for intruding in without your desire...

Dear Ronin,
Please understand that you are not a flea. You are a human. Human body gives you higher intelligence than other species. With higher intelligence comes the responsibility to lead a life which is higher then animals. The quest for God is that higher aspect of human life and that's why human life is really special. So my friend, please don't think like a flea as there is big difference in a flea's intelligence and your intelligence. Try to use common sense and try to understand that if something might be foolish, one should at least try something wiser. Visit your nearest ISKCON center where ever you are. Put all your thoughts about spirituality and have discussions with the devotees of lord Krishna there. If after that you are still not convinced then it’s your choice.
