Please go for it if you actually want to. I always thought it was weird for people not between the ages of 18 and 22 to be in undergrad...until I actually *got* to college. And then I realized people of all ages enroll. I'm in a class right now with a guy who is in his 50s, another class with a woman in her 40s, another class with a woman in her 30s...etc. And you're only 24, there are a lot of 24-year-olds in college. Plus since you're so young anyway, it's not like you'll obviously stand out in a crowd. It's better to go to college at 24 and maybe feel a little weird (which I don't see why you would) and establish a strong foundation for a good future as opposed to skip out on it because of fear and then get stuck working some crappy job instead of some great career.

I think you'd be surprised!

Don't worry about it at all! 24 is still very young! There are people in college froshie classes at 30!

I personally know someone who did one degree, wasn't happy working in the field (she worked for three years) and then went on to college at the age of 24.

She fits in perfectly there, but she does admit that sometimes she feels she needs more mature people to chat with, because 18 year olds can be a tad immature. However, that's the only thing. In fact I suppose she feels younger amongst them all, and she gets along with many folks there.

Pursuing a college degree is a great goal to attain. Don’t worry about your age, you’ll be surprised at the variety of people in school. Don’t let age stop you at all; there is no age limit for bettering yourself. The felonies of your past are in the past and you have a great opportunity to clean it up.

Don’t worry about getting a job; a degree is a demonstration that you are no longer the person you were at 18. Besides, a job cannot be denied due to misdemeanors (I think it depends on the nature of the work itself). It will be difficult if you try to get a government job.

Don’t despair and please go to college, don’t rob yourself of a great opportunity. As for your career choice, think about what you’re great at, what you like to do, and how you would like to contribute to society once you get a degree. Meanwhile, apply to school and talk to advisers (or counselors) for better assistance with your classes and goals.

Good luck!

I started college in 1967, got distracted in my freshman year (wonder why?) went in the army, took 15 years off and went back as a sophomore in 1982. I found my maturity and life experiences made college much easier and I could relate to my coursework more.

Think of it this way: you can be 30 with no degree or 30 with one. Seems like a simple choice for me. Go for it!
