I am asking because I am writing a short story and in one part of it, this Mexican mother is soothing her child and is being sweet to him and speaking to him in Spanish.

Mexican nicknames:
Chuíto, which is the spanish nickname for Jesus (if it's a boy)
Lupita, which is the spanish nickname for Guadalupe (if it's a girl)

My parents and uncles/aunts call me mija (it's basically mi (my) and hija (daughter) put together). Mija can mean daughter or sweetie or honey....it depends on the situation.

Mija = for girl
Mijo = for boy.

Other nicknames can be mi reina (my queen), mi rey (my king), preciosa/o (precious), mi vida (my life), corazon (heart), etc.

I'm not mexican, I am Filipina, but my mom's nickname for me is Bonita which is a spanish word.

Corazon which means "my heart". I hear this often when my Aunt Dora is comforting my Cousin when she is scared.
