Great question.
Worst: Halo 2 - i love the game (sorta...too much buildup pre-release in my head) and the franchise, but it was the most "back to the future 2" ending I've ever seen...soooo much left unresolved. Could have bookended it better.
Depending on the day, I'd also pick FF7 - that's anther one with a great gameplay experience and an ambiguous enough ending to make you feel gypped (and after so much time playing!)...
Best: Knights of the Old Republic...WOW. When you play and end the game on the Dark side, it's gut-wrenching!

Zelda Twilight Princess for Wii and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue for DS are the two best video game endings, with Midna resurrected in human form at the end of ZTP, and the tearjerker of an ending from PMD:BRT, with the transformation back to the human world. FFVII is good too, but I LOVED the ending of Advent Children WAY more.
Nintendogs, Super Princess Peach, and Burnout have the worst endings. Nintendogs, a stupid game from the getgo, isn't even a game, it's a pet sim, and therefore has NO ending, Princess Peach, after a fun game, leaves you back where you first started, with no more powerups, save a new umbrella upgrade. Burnout, again, has no ending.

Worst Videogame Ending: Sly 3: Band of Theives. The final boss is totally lame! After that, Sly fakes memory loss so he can be with Carmelita! It also cancels out the possibility of Sly 4 :(
Best Videogame Ending: Sonic and The Secret Rings: The final boss is the most fun boss level I've ever played in my life. The end video is corny, but it's cool to see Erazor Djinn get what he deserves. It's also cool to see Sonic have this big prescence of authority, and not care if Djinn's getting hurt. Heroes need to have attitude, you know?

The ending to cap off one of the greates games of all time I would have to say Final Fantasy Seven for the best. It was awesome and the final shot of Aeris just kept you thinking.
Worst- Super Mario 64. For how great the game was at the time and all the time and effort that was spent on it the ending was flat out terrible
Oh, and I wrote it before I noticed the name, not trying to get any suck up points.(last part is an edit)

Any game that tells you "Congratulations" or "Game Over" (the good kind) or "End/Fin" is the best ending for your hard work into completing your game. The worst ending is a game that doesn't really let you end the game. That's what I think!!

silent hill loved the game but had the worst ending

i think the worst game ending is series of unfortunate events.count olaf will not die even die at the end of the game.
