All colleges have a disability department. Have your doctor make a note that you are depressed and ill and they can work with you to make arrangements with your teacher. Teachers really DO have to make exceptions for people with disabilities as some deadlines or rules are impossible for disabled people.

For example, one of my profs has a 2 absences policy. On absence #3 you fail. Because of my recorded disability she can't hold me to that rule. I have to do a little extra work to make up for extra classes I missed, but it usually is something easy like a 3 page book report or making up tests in the disability office.

The only thing you can do at this point is to make an appointment with the professor ASAP (like tomorrow) and explain what happened. It's up to him/her whether or not to accept the work. Deadlines are deadlines, and it's probably one of the biggest things you learn in college, that when a professor says the project/paper/test is due by 9p.m. on X date, they mean it. They don't mean 9:01p.m.

Please get help for the depression though. Most colleges and universities have student health centers, so you could make an appointment there, and go on medication if you need to.

I have a very strong feeling that your teacher isn't going to let you turn it in late. The most likely thing to be said is that "you could have turned it in early or had someone turn it in for you. Just because you are depressed doesn't mean that you could make the effort to get it turned in"

I don't think this is fair, but since when is life fair. The best thing is to still talk to your teacher. He/she might let you turn it in late or maybe even take it with no penalties. All you really can do at this point is try.

I have depression and I understand that there are days that you feel like you literally cannot leave your apartment/house. It is such a terrible feeling but there is nothing that can be done (except drugs but even those can only do so much). I would really suggest going to your professor and talking to them about your problem and telling them honestly what is going on. Most of the time professors are really understanding about these things.

tell your teacher that you showed your work to someone you know, for constructive criticism, and they said it "looked great, " and that they "loved it". then tell your teacher that every TRUE artist will want to change SOMETHING about his/her work if complimented, and you owed it to yourself and your work to go back and tweak it.
good luck.
