Mientkiewicz will save Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez a ton of errors at first base. He also will hit in the .270 range as he gets the most ABs of any Yankee at 1B this season.

I think that Mientkiewicz was a great addition for the Yanks, i fear that he will not be in the lineup enough BUT if anyone around there knows wtf they are doing he will play 1st base most days while Giambi (i hate him) will DH. Doug isnt gonna hit .300 or give you 25 HR's or even 75 RBI - but he plays hard nosed baseball, great defense, and is a grinder. Something the Yankees have gotten away from (Knoblauch, Brosius, guys like that) and thats why they have degressed despite adding so many "stars". They need some character on the team other than the star attitude, a guy who doesnt have the most talent but has ALOT of heart and thats what Mientkiewicz adds to a team full of ego's. I dont think he's enough though, but its a start. They wont win it all this season b/c their pitching staff is garbage but he will def. help keep the sanity in the clubhouse b/c he is a down to earth player and the media doesnt put him on a pedestal constantly like everyone else in NY at the moment.

Also remember, he was a big part of the BoSox success in '04 when they won it all (i know you dont want to hear that!), and he recorded the final out in that '04 World Series game! He's a grinder.

Coming from a Mets fan who had to suffer through him for a season, very poorly. I have never seen a guy hit more weak groundouts to second. It's uncanny. Seems like he can go for two weeks, and not do anything buy ground weakly to second.

He may have a point or two that he shows a glimmer of hope, and you say, "hey, maybe he can go back to being the .300 hitter that he once was." Then, he'll ground out to second for 45 straight at bats.

You need a masocistic sense of humor watching him bat in the long term. Enjoy!

Ahhh.. Good old Doug. As a Red Sox fan: I know him well.

He will hit .235 with 5 HR and 35 RBI's, give or take a few. He will play stellar defense, he will ruffle feathers in the media, and he will be disliked by his team mates.

Consistent as gravity.

He has great fielding skills. He will come on as a defensive replacement for Giambi in the 8th or 9th inning if the Yankees are leading. He is not a great hitter.

very sparingly, and hit below .240. best for them to be worrying about that sorry rotation they have.
