Comfortability Synonym

This word annoys me too. As I see it, when used as a synonym for comfort it is essentially redundant. The best defense I've come across is that it can be used to mean "The degree to which something or someone is comfortable" -then it, in one word, replaces what might otherwise be described in three: "level of comfort"

The word that really prickles is 'uncomfortability', will somebody please introduce Northern Americans to the word 'discomfort'?
