I assume that your real question is about Indestructible cards.

A destroy effect is a card or power that says it "destroys" something, for example, Cradle to Grave says "Destroy target nonblack creature that came into play this turn", Stone Rain destroys target land, Wrath of God destroys all creatures, etc.

Lethal damage is damage equal to or greater than the targets toughness.

Neither of these things can destroy an Indestructible card. However, that does not mean that it cannot be destroyed. If an effect reduces a creatures toughness to 0, it is destroyed, but that is neither a destroy effect or lethal damage, so it still works. If something forces your opponent to sacrifice a creature, nothing prevents him from sacrificing an Indestructible one, so if you leave him no other choice, Mr. Indestructible goes away.

There are also other ways of dealing with a card. You can still return that card to his hand, giving you some breathing room and maybe a chance to counter it or make him discard it. You may be able to take control of the card or neutralize it in some way, Faiths Fetters springs to mind, but there are certainly more.

Destroy effects state that a permanent is destroyed without dealing damage to it like stone rain destroys a land or disenchant destroys an enchantment or artifact. Also you have dark banishing destroying a non-black creature or wreaking ball destroys a land or creature. Lethal damage is when you deal a creature damage equal to it's toughness as in when you have a 1/1 creature on the board and someone uses shock on it and deals it 2 damage. Another one is when a 4/4 creature is blocked by a 6/6 creature and is dealt 6 damage and dies because it only had a 4 toughness.

lethal damage means that your creature received the same or more damage to its life points. and goes directlly to the graveyard, unless you have other cards to prevent it.

destroy effects puts the card that it specifically destroy to the graveyard, unless you have other cards to prevent it.
