A nickel is usually not a problem once it clears the airway in any age person, but once it has gone into the stomach, with an adult , it will probably be excreted in the stool
With a baby, probably not and you should seek a physicians advice. It really depends on the size of the swallower. If there is a problem of elimination, see a doctor. Nickel , as a metal will not kill you.

you should take him to the emergency room just to be sure. I don't think the metal would hurt ... it's just nickel but an obstructed intestine from a stuck nickel could be very serious and maybe deadly. Not to scare you or anything because it will probably be ok but I still think emergency room is a really good idea so that they can watch and make sure everything "goes" ok if you know what I mean.

Other than having a unique diet, no ill effects wil be suffered by your friend. The need for nickel in the human diet is not intented to be meant that way, but in food. The coin will pass in the proper fashion. Personally, I wouldn't think most folks to be so hard up for money to chase that partcular coin.

I'm glad you told me how much a nickel was worth. I was worried for a second.
Your dog should be fine, I swallowed a nickel when I was a kid and look what happened to me!
