Ghandi. A biographical film of real historic value, and not just a fictional story on a doomed ocean liner. If you have not seen Ghandi, you should.

The Pianist and Schindler's List are both true stories about the Holocaust, and The Longest Day is a well made and accurate account of D-Day, but Ghandi is my favorite.

Sports:

Remember the Titans: Incredible movie. Don't let the fact that it was done by Disney fool you. Not only is it great, after listening to the commentary, you find out it's relatively accurate.

Miracle: Once again, ignore the Disney issue. Kurt Russel's performance as Herb Brooks is perfect.

Non-Sports:

Apollo 13: Already mentioned, but worth mentioning again.

Thirteen Days: Never realized how close we actually came to nuclear war before seeing this movie.

Gods and Generals and Gettysburg: Two parts to a trilogy of movies on the Civil War. They actually got reenactionists to help accurately portray the war.

Black Hawk Down: Got people who were involved in the incident to act as advisors on the film. On of the most intense films I have ever seen.

Fav.- The Hurricane
Best- Ghandi
Best/Fav. Sport- (besides Hurricane) Remember The Titans
If you haven't seen it already, check out Gridiron Gang. It's not fantastic (leading roles played by a wrestler and a rapper), but worth checking out. Also, there was a made for T.V. movie called Joe And Max about Joe Louis and Max Schmeling fights during WW2. You've probably seen all the other one's: Rudy, Raging Bull, Cinderalla Man, Eight Men Out, ect.

Several of my favorites in no particular order, with comments:

Titanic (ignore the sappy romance)
Glory (a bit overwrought & preachy, but excellently done despite that; you could tell right then & there Denzel was going to be a movie star)
Malcolm X (speaking of Denzel)
Lawrence of Arabia
Tora! Tora! Tora!
When we were Kings (maybe the best sports documentary ever)
Apollo 13
United 93 (harrowing; the fact that there are no recognizable actors in it prevents them from distracting us from the story)
Patton
All the President's Men
Serpico
Dog Day Afternoon
Pride of the Yankees
The Great Escape
Goodfellas

These should provide you with some interesting viewing choices.

MIDWAY and its not even close. Few really know how many completely random events fell into place, at exactly the right time, in the US's favor that, had they not, we would have been fighting the Japanese in California.

Besides that, I challenge anybody to find a movie that has a cast with more true stars (and I meen super stars) in it. I counted to 12 and quit, there's more.

If you haven't seen it, you have missed you'd never believe it.;

If you like true sports stories, see Rudy. It's great. It was the first big film for Sean Astin.

Brian's Song is a good sports/tearjerker, as is Pride of the Yankees.

Seabiscuit

Glory

nicely, because videos at the instantaneous are not genuine, and are in person-friendly words a portrait of a tale, you may bare with me. a strong movie about conflict should be "Troy" it extremely is depending off of the tale of the Trojan conflict. the major personality of the movie is Achilles, who fights a bloody conflict adverse to his rival Hector. The reason behind the kingdoms is pretty for the perception that the Gods needed them to conquer the lands. a great music dedicated to the tale and its parts is "Achilles, discomfort and Ecstacy" with assistance from Manowar. verify it out on Youtube
