It goes back just a bit further than that, I think.
Reason 1 would be Russia choosing Eastern Orthodoxy over Catholicism. Reason 2, the big one, would be the centuries under Mongol rule.

Russia is an 'eastern" nation. Before, Peter the Great united its groups by force, it was a chieftain level society ruled by powerful upper class arrogant nobles; his dictatorship institutionalized it, much as Saddam Hussein institutionalized the dictator-slave collective in Iraq. Removing the tsar in Russia set parties at war just as it has in Post-Saddam Iraq, the Red and White armies/factions.
Second, Russia is an empire, the only one in Europe based on a large land mass. Britain's sea power, the Dutch sea power and the French land powers all had much smaller lands to draw from, plus a central capital--they were countries; Russia contains many ethnic and linguistic groups and has always been an empire, never a national state.

nicely, i do no longer think of your Rome analogy is genuine, because of the fact the inclusion of immigrants as a needed area of the economic device and militia happened even in the reign of Claudius, and that replace right into a golden age. Immigration isn't the sign of the fall down of a civilization, yet while people initiate freaking out approximately immigration it rather is. Its an indication that the form in place is approximately fall down from inner problems. yet inhabitants rigidity is going on international, no longer in elementary terms the 'Western international,' and any short term fulfillment that China might have in the proceeding years will quickly be overshadowed the the topics of their platforms. in short, we are all doomed.

it is so far away. since it is so much larger it has an entirely different economy, way of thinking, etc. it's amazing if you go to russia just how big things are. besides the obvious fact that the country is so big, normal things are huge. buildings, streets, it's very weird at first.

one is that they were commies for about 60 years. and I guess a second reason could be that religion was not really a part of their culture during their communist era.
