Check out "drawing and quartering" one of England's gifts to the history of brutality. A medieval hanging was a sight to behold as well. There was no sharp drop and quick broken neck, just simple strangulation as the victim squirmed and writhed at the end of a rope. An enemy of the state might be disemboweled while still alive and awake so that he might have the distinct horror of seeming his own guts displayed. Or perhaps a good old fashioned beheading; not always the single deft stroke of the executioner's axe, indeed It often took a couple of blows and misses could be quite gruesome as you might imagine (and I'm sure you will).

If your question is regarding "Execution", then there were many ways devised to execute a human being. The most common were burning, and decapitation by sword or axe. Decapition is still practiced in in some countries today.
If your question is regarding homocide, The weapon of decision on the battlefield was the Spear, until the advent of the Halberd, and the Gunne. Individual murders were often performed with poison, or a dagger/knife.

Suffocation and put him in bed or in a napping position out in the woods where the animals would get him. Remember there was no CSI, but it would be obvious if he was murdered if he was stabbed, hanged or got his head bashed in. Poison was popular too.

I think mostly people stabbed other people with swords and/or daggers. And arrows, those were popular. And the occasional battle axe or mace.
