actually we are having a reception the day of the wedding , but a couple days later we want to celebrate with a few people that we know are not going to be at the wedding, but just want to be able to drink and havea different variety of things to do.

I would suggest renting a hall, getting a dj and having it catered unless you want to go to the bars in KC.
Get a hotel room and have your guests up to your room for cocktails. Get a room on the Country Club Plaza with a view-it's killer!!!
