A lot of people say before they have time to think. I can guarantee you one thing if this is a true friend then this friend will apologies to you. It will way heavy on their hearts. If this person has no remorse then they really are not a true friend at all. Exile them from your circle of friends. You do not need them putting you down.

You know - some people just aren't mature enough to talk to people on an adult level and deal with these kinds of things. If a friend insults me - I'll tell them - and if they are a true friend they will apologize - even if they don't think they were wrong and try to be understanding about it. Someone who is not that great of a friend will say something - like why would you say that? What's your problem - instead of just taking responsibility for the rift and apologizing so you can have a better relationship. So, I have alot of friends where I would never confront them - because it does more harm than good - and I just leave the relationship with a rift in it, forgive them and move on knowing we'll never be as close as we could be and I just accept that - it's life.

I try to check these statements out by asking: "Did you really mean it when you said____________ ?"
Then I go from there. I would tell them if I was hurt by the statement. If you are a little sensitive or she was trying to give you a hint or a criticism, this would give you a chance to open a discussion that might help you.

Hi.
Part of friendship is self-disclosure, and authenticity. Part of this entails saying it straight, but with love. For instance, "X, you know I love you, but when you said/did "blah," it really bothered me..."
This way, you can clear the air without too much methane getting in the way.
