Well, i've been setting up my aquarium for my Bettas for a while now, and today i moved my two females in there. It's a 20 gallon tank, so i decided to go out and get 3 more female Bettas. I introduced them slowly to the tank and made sure they didn't fight or anything. They seem to get along great, but for the last 2 hours, they seem to all huddle together in the corner. I read that that means they don't like their tank, but there's plenty of room, and places for them to hide. Is this just what they do, or do i need to change something?

also, i have a male in a different tank, and he's doing the same thing...

The tank might probably be too big for them. You know how they're kept in stores in small bowls the size of your palm? Maybe they are overwhelmed by the space all of a sudden.Wait a while till they get used to it. You can have some more plants (soft ones so that they don't tear their fins).Plants make them feel secure.

OK keeping Betta is not so hard. They do have their Moody side. They're labyrinth fish so they like to breath oxygen on the surface of the water. They do best in warm water only because that is their habitat in the wild, hot muddy ponds. Now bettas seem to just observe everything around them and they like attention. Most female bettas hurdle together and actually stay in groups especially to keep aggressive males away. Now betta's really do like live food better then anything else. In the wild they eat larvae, worms, and other crustaceans that live in the same environment. Treat them every once and a while to some live brine shrimp and you will see lots of action and excitement.

What is the temperature of the water? Betta like warmer water, therefore they may be huddling together in order to share some of the warmth. Another option would be to get a bubbler, if you don't have one, because the lack of oxygen often makes them immobile. I had the same problem with my Betta, but once he was in warmer water, he's back to his normal self.

i have bettas myself.. i asked the same thing, betas will go into a sleep mode at the bottom or in the corner of the tank.. if you want to keep them active, put a mirror up on one side of the tank and when they see that they think its another beta and they will flair their fins out.. ready to fight.. its harmless and i do it to mine to keep them active.. this only works with the male bettas as far as i know bc you cant put 2 in a tank together...but no nothing wrong with them... just in a sleep mode.. i love bettas and have always had one for each room in my house and each one was color coordinated to match the colors of that room it was in.. they are beautiful fish.. and easy to take care of..

They must be willing to fight with each other.they will take some time in adjusting them selves in ur tank or they might be feeling too uncomfortable to swim about freely.just keep the water in the tank at room temperature.

Betta's are very weird fish they don't like alot of room they like staying closer to each other and for the male they probably are thinking why is he separated from the rest from them.
