Right now, this is about a (possibly) bad batch of wheat gluten... only the foods made with it are being recalled... they don't know yet if it's the cause of the deaths, that's what they're checking into... They must have strong suspicions though if they're pulling all that food.

If you have a problem with the food, don't return it until *after* you contact the manufacturer. They will ask for information off the cans.... and lord forbid your pet needs medical care related to this, they are unlikely to pay for it if you can't prove it was the food from the recall.

Peeps,

Think about it. Almost 50 foods were recalled. This means that no matter what food you're buying, it isn't what you thought it was. It's all made by one company.

You know, a few decades ago, there was no such thing as "dog food". If you had a dog, you gave them food. This became a problem when we started eating all this fat, fried junk.

My wife and I have been making food for our dog for a few months now and it's been really beneficial. We make rice, ground meat (any kind), peas, garbanzo beans, carrots, and whatever else we can find to give him a balanced meal. It's portioned out and we put it in the freezer for him. We thaw it out a day in advance and even warm it up for him sometimes.

He hasn't poached food from our baby, he isn't chasing the cats, and his coat is much better. Give the dog real food like they've been doing for thousands of years. Make it yourself to show him you care about him. It isn't cheaper or easier, but definitely worth it.

Here's something else, I could buy a 40 lb. bag of dog food from Costco for $12.00. That means that the food is 30 cents per pound. Would you eat food that was 30 cents per pound?

I wouldn't.

I heard on the news that the company had switched suppliers for some of thier ingredients. Most of the incidents started after this switch. The company believes that they recieved tainted batches of ingredients unknowingly from the new suppliers. They have since cancelled their contract with the suppliers and initiated this recall starting with food purchased after December 3rd, 2006.

I'm still unclear as to what ingredient or process in the manufacturing of the food caused the problem in the first place.

Thanks for being so concerned. I called all my friends who even MIGHT have fed their pets canned food and many hadn't heard of the recall.

Remeber this is mostly for the "wet" food not the dry kibble.
