I think Goth is for those who have so much pain and hurt inside that there Goth image helps them deal with there pain.
I think emo is for those who have problems and pain but Goth would be to dark for them, so the emo image and music helps them be happy.
I would not fit into any of these categories. Goth is not dark enough and emo is to pussy. So I found Jesus.

Emo got to play in a Muppet Movie. Goth didn't.

Emo is short for emotion. So I think the difference is the emotion behind each style. While goths are kinda angry and dark, emo's are dark and sensitive

Goth is mainly a fashion, the way you dress. It can also be the religion of worshiping the devel and sacrifice. Emo is a way of thought. Emo is when you hat yourself, you want to die, you want to kill yourself, you look down on yourself all the time. But not in a girl way, like is a real HATE, KILL ME, way.

different names, same nerds boo hooing about their terrible lives while they hang out at the mall foodcourt and wait for their moms to come get them after they drop their little brothers off at soccer practice.
teenagers sometimes just need a good punch in the head, we should all be so lucky as to not have a care in the world again. and not have the troubles and worries that we get when we grow up, get jobs, and learn what real problems are.

if you insult a goth they will walk up to you and spit in your face and then punch it. but emos will just find a dark corner somewhere and cry about it.
