In their furthest trip, Iowa lost the 1956 title game to the University of San Francisco, 83-71. The only other time they made the Final Four was in 1980, when they lost to eventual national champion Louisville in the semifinals, then lost to Big Ten rival Purdue in the third place game.

My beloved Hawkeyes have been to the Final Four twice...once losing in the chamionsip game in the 1956? finals and Lute Olsen guided them to the 1980 semi-finals where they lost to eventual champion Louisville.
